Research Proposal

Dissertation I & II is the final year research-based write-up which involves an in-depth study on an architectural subject. Demonstrate methodological and theoretical rigor within the proposed topic. The theoretical and intellectual rigor is researched in the Dissertation I & II, where the dissertation could be a contextual, methodological, theoretical or historical study of a topic of interest premised around the Master of Architecture @ Taylor’s University’s philosophy and position. 

The Research Proposal should contain:
 Proposed Title, Problem statement and Focus Area
 Abstract (250 words)
 Research Question(s), Aims, Objectives
 Literature Review on the background
 Research Methodology and Methods
 Limitation, significance and scope
 Gantt chart
Total word count is to be 2000 to 2500.

Seminar 1

Overall Research including Literature Review

Proceeding from Proposal presentation, we are required to commence literature review and ideas on data collection. The literature review should culminate now with

a) theoretical basis and
b) thematic conclusions relevant to the research question induced at the beginning of the Dissertation. 

Seminar 2

Overall Research including Data collection and preliminary Data Analysis

This is the culmination seminar of the semester in which we will our initial findings through preliminary data collection and analysis. Research methods and methodology are to be executed well for the proposed research question and the developed literature review, previously in the submission mentioned above. It is encouraged that the data collection and analysis should be completed during the semester break, based on the feedback given in this seminar for the preliminary data analysis.

Written draft

Introduction, Literature Review and preliminary Data Analysis

In the written draft, we should include a Dissertation Structure (shown through Table of Contents and Introduction Chapter which include Literature Review) Also, we are required to print 3 sets of written draft for assessment. For the Seminar 1, the draft has to be with chapters comprising of introduction of your research, Research Problem, Research Question and Objectives, Significance, Methodology and Methods, Dissertation Structure, Literature Review. This could count from 5000 to 6000 words.

For the Seminar 2, the draft has to be with chapters comprising of data collection and preliminary analysis, in addition to what is stipulated for the Seminar 1 draft. The draft now could count from 7000 to 8000 words. The write-up in the Drafts need to be worked on and edited for synthesizing the findings in Dissertation II, in which the targeted word count of approximately 10,000 to 11,000 words, includes the chapters, in-text references and words in tables but excludes the content pages, abstract and reference list.
