Experiencing Construction
Experiencing, documenting and analysing the construction process.
We are required to produce a complete documentation and analysis of construction elements. We are to select an ongoing site of low rise buildings; maximum 4 storey building. Documentation includes
- construction process,
- dimensions and sizes of components,
- methods,
- specifications of materials used in construction,
- site context
and these are in the form of photos, pictures, sketches, drawings, standards of descriptions and annotations.

Site visit
Reflection
Site visits are an important part of learning where it allow us to have greater understanding relating to the construction project, design and the process. To ensure the construction is successful, involvement of planning and organising skills are essential for leaders to carried out. Besides that, trainings are to be delivered to workers for safety purposes and to accomplish works effectively. Firstly, Safety is the major concern in construction site to prevent from injuries. Equipments such as fire extinguisher, safety nets, first-aid box are essential to be placed permanently on certain areas. According to the contractor, fire extinguisher will be placed on every 1 km of the construction site. We are also required to place on safety helmets before entering.
Construction site that we recently went were located at Persiaran Setia Perdana, Shah Alam - residential building with 2 storey. Hence, the area focusses on the living spaces and public gardens to encourage more interaction from neighbourhoods. Observations on the process of constructing a house are recorded down, we able to get an understanding how the theoretical knowledge is fitted into practice. Gaining experience in building materials are also part of the site visit as well where we able to identify the raw materials in the construction process such as the detailing of doors and windows installations, roof covering, wall structures and etc.
Project 2
Construction Detail and Specification
Project integrated with Studio II final project, retreat house. In this assignment, our task is to identify 3 architectural/structural details for the selected element or part of the building apart from providing necessary plans, sections, elevations. The 3 details 1) roof 2) superstructure (staircase) 3) joint and connections of column and beam I used was pure timber material.

Reflection
Throughout this project, it was quite challenging in selecting limited materials such as timber, steel which we are only allowed to explore and research. Personally, I enjoyed designing in using concrete and bricks as materials because it has pure elements and design approaches. After running through a few tutorials, I able to produce a final construction proposal of my building, The House of Curiosity. Besides that, during the process of completion, I did researches from the internet and also book from the library which its a good start to train my analysing skills by reading up the construction details used all over the world.
