Case Study

In a group of 7 , we are required to identify one contemporary architectural design that has either Chinese, Japanese or Malaysian vernacular architecture elements. In our discussion, we need to show what are the vernacular architecture references and how they were used/adapted into the building design.
We chose CHO EN DAI house which is located in Japan for our analysis.

Photobook
This project involves the study of historic streets in an Asian city to understand the historical and social aspects of a city by examining the development of tradition, modernization and globalization of historic streets.
We are required to produce a photobook to reflect our understanding to evaluate the impacts brought by modernity and globalization on the local heritage.

Reflection

Site visits are an important part of learning where it allow us to have greater understanding relating to the project, design and the process. It is a great exposure to learn on site by ourselves. There are hard times when we did not get sufficient information on the spot but with the help from team mates, we able to solve the problems from our discussions and meetings.



Project 2
Contextual Architecture Study
We are to identify a building in Asia in a sub-urban context individually which we intent to investigate through observation and readings on contemporary Contextual Architecture practices and issues in Asia. Based on the selected building, conduct analysis on its Contextual Architecture elements which includes:

Space organization and access hierarchy

Sky line, compression and height

Features related to the form of the building

Building material and systems
-
Image making elements
-
Dimensions of history and social memories
Analysis are presented in the form of A2 presentation visual, with appropriate visual communication design and clarity of information.
